Navodaya Ashram, Khairahani

AboutThe Chepang, one of Nepal's most marginalized indigenous communities, live isolated in hill and forest areas with little access to education, which led the Congregation to open a free school and hostel exclusively for their children. Navodaya School opened on 25 April 2005 in a rented building at Jayamangala, Chitwan, under Fr. Michael Chirayath, providing free study materials, uniforms, food, medicine and accommodation; the SCCG Sisters have collaborated since 2006. Five acres were bought at Khairahani in 2009, and Missio Munich funded the school, hostels, dining hall, auditorium and priests' residence, with the school building blessed on 12 November 2011; in 2019-20 it had 260 students from Class III to X. Supported mainly by the Province and Little Flower School, Narayangarh, the mission also runs Fastenopfer-supported village development and school-improvement programmes, disaster relief for the Chepang, and pastoral care for Catholics in Hetauda.Superior Fr.
